1.
Verdant groves strangle and cease man’s existence Consumed wholly by nature’s might Woeful wails of former worlds Home to ages, long forgotten Surround me, O forest of sorrow Released from thy wretched earth Thy land of trees through which solitude beckons the ancients The watcher brings solace to mortal grief Here before and long since, not yet understood by man Moonlit night gazes upon thy mortal coil Cursing thou to crawl upon thy bloated belly Returning to the soil Bow before the sires of nature, thy kingdom remains Hazy, bearded mist that envelops thy oaken glade Inevitably united with thy primal mother Standing as tall as the elder guards of thy realm
2.
Night in the forest, obscured by darkness Whispering willows with the wisdom of centuries Shadows skulk through the lambency of the moon Elder spirits indwell thy wooded temple Ominous, solitude, evermore lonely but not alone Look to the sky, veiled by gnarled limbs The breath of the algid northern wind Fracturing form, memories turned to sand Old Ones, mercy, I plead Mangrove of outstretched claws, bind me Pestilent, a plague upon thy soil Succumb to the earth Lost with time, forgotten, nothingness
3.
Along the trail of smoke and ash, through the dreary, misty mountains I, the wanderer, long to become the wilderness Of autumn, of winter, lasting for eons My journey is long and night grows brumal Isolation will never cease, I summon the Old Ones Adrift amongst majestic pines, begrimed furrows of soot Black as the night sky, black as the soil beneath my feet For I too, will return to this place I am the forest, constant, crown above my citadel Hoary boughs, steeped in opulence Bereft of feeling Withered to nothing, the end of all things Buried beneath fallen leaves lies man’s fate Bitter in the blackened mud, tormentor of woe Mighty forest, Quell my dolor Here I am, and here I shall remain

We had been sullen
in the sweet air that’s gladdened by the sun;
we bore the mist of sluggishness in us:
now we are bitter in the blackened mud.
